  • One member noted that programs may set their own restrictions and not abide by the IELA.

Action: Ryan will advise Roger Nielsen, Executive Committee Liaison, of the concerns raised by the Graduate Council of how the ILEA was approved at the undergraduate level.

Updating Policies – Internships – Graduate-level Internships

  • Academic Programs and Assessment requested that the ‘Internships’ policy be updated; the last update occurred in 2085. Suggested revisions/discussion:
  • Hours should be commensurate with academic credit, not the amount of time spent on the internship.
  • What does it take to have a 410/510 course established vs. what process does the student follow to be admitted?
  • Prefer to insert reference to the ‘Learning Agreement’.
  • Observation: This is a graduate policy that is not within the purview of the Graduate School.
  • Change to: To register for an internship course, you must have a new learning agreement approved by the graduate faculty member assigned to the course.

Action: Ryan sent the proposed revised verbiage to Lisa Ganio and one of them will forward to the Graduate Council so the members can request comments from their colleagues.

Matters Arising

Ecampus

The issue is that Ecampus programs changing modality do not come through the Graduate Council – this is an issue of concern. Perhaps this should be addressed in the 10-year review process.

Action: Further discussion will occur at an upcoming meeting.

Graduate Program Reviewers

  • Environmental Engineering 5-year review – Marie Harvey will replace Ryan Contreras
  • Molecular and Cellular Biology 10-year review – Ryan Contreras

Five-year Reviews
