Course Reviews

  • BI 101 – Environmental Biology                                       Scientific Inquiry
  • Z 102 – Animal Biology                                                   Scientific Inquiry
  • BI 103 – Human Biology                                                 Scientific Inquiry
    • BI 101, Z 102 and BI 103 have be reviewed as a group.
    • Revisions at this point were straight forward – asked that they detail which assignments were the essential assignments. Asked that they remove advising language. Asked that they clear up language regarding time expectations.
    • Recommend approving BI 101, Z 102 and BI 103.

Action: Motion to approve all three courses; seconded. The motion was approved with 10 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 0 abstentions.

  • TA 147 – Intro to Theatre                                               Arts & Humanities – Gen
    • Ask that course title be made to match in CIM and on syllabus
      • Ecampus syllabus still has the wrong name.
      • Ecampus syllabus does not have as much detail as the Corvallis syllabus.
        • Ecampus syllabus has not undergone any changes.
        • No apparent changes in CIM.
    • Asked that Ecampus redevelopment form be submitted
    • Asked that Course Learning Outcome (CLO) 3 assessment language be clarified.

Action: Motion to send back and request that they clarify learning outcome 3 and change the title on the syllabus; seconded. The motion was approved with 10 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 0 abstentions.

  • HST 280 – The Transatlantic Slave Trade                           Arts & Humanities – Global
    • Extremely strong course.
    • Minor comment – why is it not in Social Sciences?
      • Historical analysis of primary and secondary documents.
      • The LOCR report lists history as an acceptable humanities course
    • Additional points:
      • Missing an "And" in the course description, last sentence.
      • How exactly does Assignment 4 help students connect to their lived experience?
      • The syllabus does not explain when peer/instructor feedback will be provided, which is a category criterion, but it is in the CIM proposal.

Action: Motion to approve with grammatical changes and a suggestion to clarify assignment 4; seconded. The motion was approved with 10 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 0 abstentions.

  • WR 323 – Advanced Writing & Argumentation                     Writing Elevation
    • Sent back with one question and it looks like they responded. The response was somewhat broad but did some appropriate and the syllabi were updated.

Action: Motion to approve; seconded. The motion was approved with 9 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 1 abstention.

  • WR 362 – Science Writing                                               Writing Elevation
    • The proposal was detailed and well done.
    • Appropriate for the category
    • Only concern – same essential assignment for every category.
      • Other courses have been approved with the same essential assignment for all the Learning Outcomes

Action: Motion to approve; seconded. The motion was approved with 10 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 0 abstentions.

  • LEAD 242 – Personal Leadership Development                    Beyond I & II
  • HDFS 262 – Introduction to Human Services                      Beyond I & II
  • HDFS 310 – Human Services Practicum                             Beyond I & II
    • Proposed together. All well detailed and good fits for the category.
    • The biggest issue – None list a Transitions course as a pre-requisite, but this was something changed after the fact, so it is not an issue of the course content.
      • Transitions has to be taken first or at the same time; if this course is transferred in, that criteria is not being met for HDFS 262.
    • HDFS 262 is a pre-requisite for 310 – why? It is a requirement for a lot of courses and is transferred in by a lot of students.
    • HDFS is in a unique situation due to the Major Transfer Map agreements.
    • Discussion on HDFS 262 was tabled to consider potential conflicts with the Major Transfer Map and the Core Ed Learning Outcomes.

Action: Motion to approve LEAD 242; seconded. A Transitions course is expected once one is available; seconded. The motion was approved with 10 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 0 abstentions.

Action: Motion to approve HDFS 310; seconded. The motion was approved with 10 votes in favor, 0 votes in opposition and 0 abstentions.

  • MTH 227 – Calculus and Probability for the Life Sciences I    Quantitative Literacy
    • No serious issues with course and seems appropriate for the category.
    • Does have a pre-requisite of MTH 100Z or a 75 or higher on a placement exam.
    • Course seems open to students, regardless of discipline.
    • The Quantitative Literacy category is specifically for the Math and Statistics courses.
    • It is centered on Math but is tailored for the Life Sciences.
    • Discussion on the course will continue during the next meeting.
  • GEOG 203 – There is No Plan(et) B                                  Social Science
    • Tabled until the next meeting.
  • PS 207 – Political Communications                                    Comm, Media, Society
    • Tabled until the next meeting.
  • GEO 201 – Physical Geology                                            Scientific Inquiry
    • Tabled until the next meeting.
  • H 244 – Science of Human & Planetary Health                    Scientific Inquiry
    • Tabled until the next meeting.
