Jim Liburdy died on January 28, 2025.

Jim Liburdy received his BS from Cornell University in 1971, his MS from Stanford University in 1972, and his PhD from Pennsylvania State University in 1976.

Dr. Liburdy's research focused on fundamental issues of turbulent flows, flow in porous media, enhancement of transport properties by complex flow structures, high speed droplet formation, thermal management, and low Reynolds number aerodynamics. Applications of this work include high heat flux micro-electronic cooling, high-temperature gas turbine blade cooling systems, micro-scale fluid flow systems for biological and chemical reactors and ink-jet printing technology, multi-phase ejector systems, and environmental control. Dr. Liburdy's research has received support from Hewlett-Packard, Xerox, Westinghouse, General Electric, AT&T, DuPont, Maxfli, and other industry sponsors as well as by DARPA, DoE, NSF, ONR, NASA, and AFOSR.
