    Michele Swift, Curriculum Council Co-chair, will present for approval the below proposals.

      • Artificial Intelligence #107212 – New Graduate Degree Proposal (Approved by the Curriculum Council and Executive Committee.)
      • Energy Policy #106319 – New Online Graduate Certificate Program Proposal (Approved by the Curriculum Council and Executive Committee.)
      • Yoga Studies and Yoga Teacher Training #107557 – New Certificate Program Proposal (Approved by the Curriculum Council and Executive Committee.)
  1. eSET Scores   
    Robin Pappas, Advancement of Teaching chair, will present for approval the below eSET questions, which will apply to spring 2020 only.

Following Provost Feser’s April 1 announcement that eSET scores would be optional for spring 2020, the Advancement of Teaching Committee has provided the Faculty Senate with three replacement questions that will better reflect student experience:

  • In regard to your interactions with the content, instructor, and other students in the course, what went well this term?
  • In regard to your interactions with the content, instructor, and other students in the course, what didn’t go well or could be improved?
  • Please comment on your workload for this course. Were the number of hours per week needed to prepare for this course appropriate to the knowledge gained?

Motion: That the faculty adopt the three experience questions as our student feedback tool for teaching in spring 2020.

  1. SPECIAL REPORTS
    1. Affordable Learning Plan 
      Stefanie Buck, Director of Open Educational Resources and Shannon Riggs, Executive Director of Academic Programs and Learning Innovation, will present the Affordable Learning Plan created by a university-wide steering committee to address the requirements of House Bill 2213. The plan includes institution-wide efforts and activities designed to help lower the cost of learning materials and improve access to course materials for all students.  
  1. Board of Trustees Meeting Recap 
    Mike Bailey, OSU Board of Trustees Faculty Member, will recap the April meeting.
  1. Discontinuation of Combined Sites in Canvas 
    Lynn Greenough, Associate Director Academic Technology UIT, will describe an end to the automatic creation of combined ("C") sites in Canvas.
  1. Faculty Senate Pulse Survey Results  
    Kate MacTavish, Executive Committee member, will discuss the Faculty Senate Pulse Survey 2.0.
  1. OSU Pandemic Reopening Strategy    
    Vice Provost for Student Affairs Dan Larson will provide an overview of the OSU resumption plan and share how OSU’s planning aligns with the state’s reopening plan.
  1. OPEN FORUM
    President Dwaine Plaza will open the meeting to questions or comments from Senators about how they’re doing teaching remotely, or any concerns they may wish to share.

    1. Remote Participation in Faculty Senate Meetings
      Login instructions to participate remotely in Faculty Senate meetings were in the email message sent to Senators. The Zoom session will begin at 2:50 PM on the day of the Senate meeting. Please login with your ONID credentials to the Faculty Senate Chat Room. Senators and proxies must log in with their real names so that attendance can be accurately reflected; if you are a proxy, please indicate the Senator you are representing. If you experience problems logging in during the meeting, please contact Vickie Nunnemaker at vickie.nunnemaker@oregonstate.edu or Caitlin Calascibetta at Caitlin.Calascibetta@oregonstate.edu.
                The preferred login method is to sign in using the Zoom App. If you are logging in using a browser, Chrome is the recommended choice. Users that cannot be authenticated through DUO will not be able to join the meeting.
                Non-Senators are welcome to participate but, due to recent Zoombombing incidents, the login instructions are not being published.   1. Small Group Sessions with President Ray
    President Ray and the Faculty Senate Executive Committee will continue the long-standing tradition of sponsoring small group faculty conversations (academic, research and professional faculty). This conversation will be facilitated by a Faculty Senate Executive Committee member and will consist of up to 12 faculty. These conversations, via Zoom, provide President Ray with an opportunity to receive candid feedback from faculty and an occasion for idea and information exchange. You may register online to attend the remaining session:
              May 20 – 2:00-3:30 PM
  1. Program Changes Approved by the Curriculum Council
    Attached are program changes approved by the Curriculum Council during April 2020. These changes are not required to be approved by the Faculty Senate and are included for information only.
  1. Vacancies
    Please notify the Faculty Senate Office if a sabbatical, leave or retirement will prevent completion of your term as either a Senator or Faculty Senate committee/council member. If you are away more than one term, exclusive of summer term, a replacement is required. This information will assist us in identifying a replacement.
    If you are unsure when your Senator or committee/council term ends, you may check the Senator membership list or the Committees & Councils site.
  1. 2020 Faculty Senate Meetings
    Please reserve the following date for remaining Faculty Senate meeting of the academic year: June 11 – Faculty Senate meetings are scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, until further notice, Faculty Senate meetings will be via Zoom – Zoom login instructions were in the email.
              As a reminder, Senators are responsible for finding a proxy to represent them when unable to attend.
              Non-Senators are welcome to participate but, due to recent Zoom bombing incidents, the login instructions are not being published.
